Where We Are Now

After finding and remediating mold twice in our Colorado home, we abandoned ship in October 2008. Because of the high levels of exposure, our entire family was affected. After months of seeing different specialists for all of the problems, we came to Arizona to begin comprehensive treatment to rid our bodies of the toxic buildup. In August 2009 we moved into a larger home, four bedrooms, south of Tucson, north of Mexico. I am doing my daily radio program/ writing from that location. Thanks for praying for us. We really feel it.

What a treat to walk down Wells Street again. My wife and I moved here in 1983, 6 months after we were married. We had everything we owned (except for some furniture) in the back of a 1978 Toyota Corolla Hatchback (which is still running somewhere, I believe). We were following God's call, wherever he led, and we wound up at Moody Bible Institute.

Walking down Wells, I remembered Kristen Kent who was killed here walking back from a job she had. They were filming a movie near the street where she lost her life. The Cabrini Green housing projects are mostly gone. Many students went there to mentor or befriend young children in the neighborhood, but it was a rough area. Now it's been leveled and there are so many buildings going up. The economy may be slowing down, but Chicago is filling up.

The thing I like coming back here is the people. I just spent a few minutes talking with Mike Kellogg, who has meant so much to listeners over the years. Yesterday, Greg Wheatley and I spoke about the Detroit Tigers of the 1960s. I have no earthly idea why because I hate the American League.

Greg now hosts Prime Time America, but a few years ago we used to host a morning program together. There are not two more opposite people on the planet, but I love him like a brother...which means I want to sneak into his room at night and scare the living peanuts out of him.

Then we talked about my book, Dogwood, and his perceptions of it. He mentioned that someone had told him a tidbit about a scene and he wanted to know more. This is a man who does not read the kind of books I write, but that's okay, because my main readership is women who want to dive in to a good story, see themselves on the pages, and come out the other side with some of God's love displayed on the page.

If you haven't read it yet, order a copy or pick one up from your local bookstore.

And then call Greg Wheatley and tell him about it!

Hey, Chris!

What fun to hear you and Mr. Wheatley together on the Moody airwaves again! I'm sure your faithful Chicagoland listeners enjoyed the reunion, and maybe even joined me in shedding a nostalgic tear or two! It's great to see that the intervening years have in no way dimmed the rapport that made "Mornings with Greg & Chris" such a lively & heartwarming way to start the day! Thanks for affording us those moments, and please consider inviting Mr. Wheatley back for an occasional return engagement!

Chris!
Hope that you enjoy Chicago again! I am missing that place for sure! I am now a missionary in Italy (MBI Grad '06) Prior to that I was a FedEx driver.

I must correct you on your statement of work with Greg Wheatley. It was more like 12 years ago! I know this because I was a new believer back then and I would listen to you guys every morning. Your program meant so much to me as a new believer. You showed me that Christians were cool and that they could laugh. Now I hear your voice and I think back to those wonderful days.

I had opportunity to thank Greg last year - now I would like to thank you for being there for me!

Keep up the great work. I listen to your show from time to time on the net. Praise the Lord! ~~Blessings~~Phil

Hello Chris,

I enjoy your show. I especially enjoyed hearing you and Greg back together again last week. I currently live in S. Florida, but less than a year ago, I lived in Illinois with my family for 17 years. I absolutely loved the Morning Show with Greg and Chris.

Anyway, Please keep up the good work and PLEASE tell your wife that she blessed me with a comment she made on your weekend show with her and (Gary Chapman?).
It was in regards to her daughter wanting to be homeschooled due to some issue at school but she stuck it out in school. Her comment was that (paraphrasing), all the little things, we parents stress about in our children lives, will be insignificant when our children are adults, what matters most, is "will our adult children want to be around us?"

I have struggled with homeschooling my Children for 8 years(3 of them). It got harder and harder each year. The children didn't like it and I didn't either, but, I was being "obedient" to what the Lord wanted me to do, even if it hurts. I just figured this was my "cross to bear" and I should just do it. I cried alot, sometimes saying "Lord, please deliver me from this, nevertheless, not My will but Thine be done." My Children always had a Great Teacher around 24 hours a day, but they had missed their MOM.
Well, all three of my Children are attending a Christian School this year, (Yipee). They come home and MOM is there, listening to how their day was and helping with Homework. The break from teaching my own children ALL day is nice. I may eventually go back to it, BUT.

Anyway, please keep up the good work and remember to Thank your wife.
Side Note: I would love to hear other's thoughts about this. Do we sometimes take up crosses that we shouldn't: Thinking we're being obedient to God, but there's an inner struggle with what we're doing? We never get a peace about it, and there seems to ge no Grace (2 Cor 12;9) to help, no Joy. I'm not saying serving the Lord will always be easy. Your Thoughts.
