I thoroughly enjoyed today's show! I was unsuccessful in getting through to share with you my summer read, Abandon Not My Soul by first time author, Sherye S. Green. It's a romantic novel and the first of a trilogy. I predict Sherye will develop a strong following.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the list! I look forward to reading some of these titles. I have a question, though. On the broadcast, I heard the guests mention classic vs literary writing, and I don't know what they mean by the distinction. Can you help?
ReplyDeleteOn the distinction between "classic" and "literary," I don't see much. But there is a distinction in "popular" Christian fiction and "literary" Christian fiction. This term, literary, usually means the fiction is less "commercial," doesn't attract as big of an audience. John Grisham writes books with plots that appeal to many readers. John Irving sells a lot of books as well, but his fiction doesn't have the "hooks" that Grisham will use. Literary can mean more poetic, a depth of prose, topics that draw you into the characterization but may not seem as blockbusting or escapist. It's page turning in its own way, but in a different way than a more commercial book.
ReplyDeleteJust read "Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus". What a sweet book. Made me think of my own mom who is 82 this month and can still experience God's pleasure- even from a wheelchair.
ReplyDeleteI missed the show, but came to check out the blog! An author of more recent books that I love is Dee Henderson. Great exciting plots about the military and suspense stories. I like that her characters wrestle with how their beliefs (or lack of) affect the situations they are in.
