Where We Are Now

After finding and remediating mold twice in our Colorado home, we abandoned ship in October 2008. Because of the high levels of exposure, our entire family was affected. After months of seeing different specialists for all of the problems, we came to Arizona to begin comprehensive treatment to rid our bodies of the toxic buildup. In August 2009 we moved into a larger home, four bedrooms, south of Tucson, north of Mexico. I am doing my daily radio program/ writing from that location. Thanks for praying for us. We really feel it.

Devotion #2

One of the best things you can do with a passage of scripture is ask or answer questions posed in the text. Today, slowly read Philippians 2:1-11 again. Then return to the first two verses and look at the construction Paul uses. There is clearly some division in the church, something unsettling going on. Look at what Paul says to bring the believers back to fixing their eyes on Jesus:

1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Today, think about the first clause of that verse, “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ…”

What encouragement do you have from being united with Christ?

What does being united with Christ mean?

What other passages does this remind you of, if any?

Are there any situations in the life of Christ and his disciples that spring to mind?

Write down an example from your own life where being united with Christ made a difference and how you responded.

Finally, look at the prayer from Day 1. Is there anything you can add to it from today?

Dear Chris: Be united with Christ has given me the strength to get through our family's recent string of crisis moments. We had to file for bankruptcy because my husband lost his job in April 09. Then on a contract job in Dallas in Sept 09, he had a heart attack. Because of our mounting bills, we had to file for bankruptcy and now we have been served with a foreclosure summons. On top of that, our youngest son has made some bad choices and has received several tickets and needs to go to court for this. But through all this, God has been faithful, He has never changed, He is my Strength, my Shield, my Banner, My Provider and Jesus is my Lord. Throughout all this, I am frustrated, I cry, but I know that God is here with me and with my husband, even though I am the only believer in my home. God bless you.

Dear Chris:
Be united with Christ to me means Christ has and will always have my back, front, all of me. What I mean by this;I could not have gone through through the last thirty years of my life with all the uncertainly (a smalll physical disablity from brith) without Christ and in partnership with other believers as Paul's letter speak of. The Lord is my Healer and Protector. He is my all in all.
AS Paul writes in the latter chapter of this wonderful letter; I have learned to be content; becuse I am learning not to be self-dependant or dependant on others, but to be Christ-dependat for everything.

Chris,
There are many days when the only encouragement I feel is Christ's presence. I am thankful that the seeds of Jesus' love were planted in me as a child but I didn't fully claim them as my own until well into my adulthood. I am thankful that "if" isn't a part of my faith in Christ.

Dear Chris:
As I review the scriptures I realize how much God has been with me through it all. I draw my strength from him and he has never let me down although I feel I have let him down; but I feel by just starting to read and review the bible more I am getting reconnected again.

Thank you for what your ministry is doing for people like me that have lost their way a little bit, but want to be found.
